Faculty Training - Best Practices

Individual Sessions

New faculty members meet with an administrator or the campus IDEA coordinator to discuss the IDEA results and their use in either the evaluation process and/or for faculty improvement.

Group Sessions

A portion of the new faculty orientation introduces faculty to IDEA, the teaching/learning philosophy and the role of the coordinating office staff as the coordinators and resident experts in the use of IDEA. Periodic workshops, conducted for all faculty, focus on preparing syllabi and course objectives, administering IDEA, and interpreting IDEA results.

Ongoing Communication/Training

Along with going to department meetings, conducting training sessions, and inviting one-on-one appointments, the IDEA coordinator/resident expert visits the faculty senate, deans, and department heads at their meetings. Faculty are also individually notified by phone and/or email of potential problems with Faculty Information Forms, numbers of forms for processing, etc. They are asked to pass along any valuable information to others, and are invited to encourage other faculty to contact the IDEA coordinator with questions or problems. Interaction is ongoing throughout the semester.
