Coaching Options
Each year, a limited number of spaces are available for each of the four coaching options. The IDEA Chair Coaching Service can be registered for at the same time as the IDEA Feedback for Department Chair Survey. Coaching can also be requested after completing the survey process by indicating the date of the survey on the Request Form.
Once registered, an IDEA coach will contact the campus contact person or the department chair to schedule the coaching session at a time that is most convenient for the chair. Prior to the consultations, the department chair will be required to complete a form granting permission for their IDEA Feedback for Department Chairs results to be released to the IDEA coach.
Option 1. Facilitated Reflection
- Coaching session with a coach that has extensive higher education experience, focused on the major categories of the chair’s feedback report, typically a 60-minute conference call
- Chair will share self-reflection, discuss strengths, and plan for improvement
- IDEA coach will supply insights, strategies, and resources
- Dean, supervisor, or mentor can participate and collaborate under a separate agreement, at no additional fee. Prior to coaching session, the IDEA coach will work with the supervisor to reach mutual agreement on the supervisor’s role in the process.
Fee: $350/chair
Option 2. One-year Individualized Coaching
- Four coaching sessions with a coach that has extensive higher education experience, focused on the major categories of chair’s feedback report, typically telephone conference calls
- Chair will share self-reflection, discuss strengths, and plan for improvement
- IDEA coach will supply insights, strategies, and resources throughout the process
- Consultations result in a Personal Development Plan (PDP) which will be implemented and used to guide coaching sessions
- Chair will keep monthly journals of activities, outcomes, and insights
- Chair will complete a mid-term reflective practice report with modifications to the PDP as necessary
- Chair will complete end-of-year final reflective practice report and final assessment/evaluation of the experience
- Dean, supervisor, or mentor can participate and collaborate under a separate agreement, at no additional fee. Prior to coaching session, the IDEA coach will work with the supervisor to reach mutual agreement on the supervisor’s role in the process.
- Individual sessions will focus on the following:
- Goal-setting
- Strategies to achieve goals
- Measuring accomplishments
- Assessing what worked and what didn’t
- Individual sessions will focus on the following:
Fee: $2000/chair
Option 3. One-Year Learning Community
- Four coaching sessions with a coach that has extensive higher education experience, typically 60-minute conference calls
- Coaching provided to chairs (group limit: 6) from the same institution based on common goals and challenges
- IDEA coach facilitates sessions in which group members collaboratively develop their Professional Development Plans (PDPs), share reflections, celebrate accomplishments, and give each other feedback
- IDEA coach will supply insights, strategies, and resources
- Chairs will keep monthly journals of activities, outcomes and insights, and share with their cohorts via interactive groupware
- Chairs will complete a mid-term reflective practice report with modifications to the PDP as necessary
- Chairs will complete end-of-year final reflective practice report and final assessment/evaluation of the experience
- Dean, supervisor, or mentor can participate and collaborate under a separate agreement at no additional fee
- Group sessions will focus on the following:
- Goal-setting
- Strategies to achieve goals
- Measuring accomplishments
- Assessing what worked and what didn’t
Fee: $1500/chair
Option 4. Institutional Coaching
- IDEA coach works with an institutional representative to design, implement and deliver a face-to-face or virtual workshop with follow-up activities or projects focused on specific topics.
- Cost for follow-up activities depends upon scope and nature of the coaching and the number of chairs involved
- Negotiated institutional contract
