Best Practices by Institution

The IDEA Center receives numerous inquiries from prospective and current customers alike. One frequent question is, “In what ways have other campuses effectively used the IDEA Student Ratings of Instruction system?” Some of those currently using IDEA shared some best practices from their experience. A repository of best practices in use by specific institutions:

Demonstrating Results to Students
In introducing the IDEA process, encourage faculty to show students a sample Diagnostic Form Report so students get a chance to see the wealth of information the ratings provide.  When students can see the results, it motivates them to be more engaged in providing the data, and it underscores the anonymity of the data they enter.

Faculty Buy-In

The Art Institute of California – San Francisco began using IDEA shortly after the campus was instituted in July of 1998. Since evaluation has always been done, it is a part of the culture and viewed to be an informative process. Results are used in the annual review process and to guide improvement efforts.
